Welcome to 2019! What will you do for vacation this year?

It may be cold, but summer’s not far off

If you’re like most people, you spend the holidays both reflecting on the year that was and thinking about the plans you have for the year to come. Which means that even though it’s cold outside, your thoughts may be turning to this year’s vacation(s).

If you’re thinking of spending time in Toronto as part of your vacation this year, you should probably consider executive suites (also known as ‘extended stay apartments’ or ‘furnished suites’).

Why think about executive suites for vacation?

  • You get (a lot) more for your money. Even the 2-star downtown Toronto hotels are listing summer ‘deals’ at $250/night, making them prohibitive for more than a night or two. For the cost of 3 nights in a small Marriott room, you can get a week in a (bigger, more attractive) downtown condo
  • You get a lot more space. While we do have some studios, we also have lots of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom suites, which means you can bring the kids (or the in-laws, or friends) and not have to eat snacks while you’re sitting on the bed.
  • Cleanliness. You don’t have to be a neat freak to feel a little icky about the fact that any hotel room has probably had thousands of guests before you. Furnished suites, on the other hand, have far fewer guests and are refurbished regularly. (Ours also have proprietary bedbug-safe linens, pillows and encased mattresses, which hotels just don’t offer.)
  • You can eat better. Toronto has all kinds of great restaurants, and you’ll want to try lots of them. But even the most hardcore foodies often prefer breakfast in their own kitchen, and sometimes it’s nice to have a homecooked dinner, even on vacation. Our suites have fully-equipped, full-size kitchens, which mean you can eat what you want, when you want (and for a lot less than room service).
  • Entertaining. When you’re on vacation, sometimes you just want to hang out and have a glass of wine with friends. Hotel rooms make it difficult to relax (someone always has to perch on the end of the bed), but furnished suites mean we can have appetizers and drinks ‘at home’ before we head out for the evening.
  • It’s easier to telecommute – and still remain productive. Our furnished suites have more amenities and room than most hotel rooms, which means that it’s easier to set up a temporary office. Many of our guests who come for a month or more tell us that the ‘apartment’ environment is more conducive to getting work done, which allows them to extend their stay.

So go ahead – enjoy the cold weather, the skiing and the snow. But it’s okay to daydream about the summer to come, and how you could be spending it in Toronto this year.

Thank you for supporting our food drive!

Helping out this holiday season

We delivered a car full of food to the Toronto Fire Department yesterday!

Once again, thanks so much to everyone who helped us make a contribution to the community this year. We appreciate your help!

Jeremy McFadden Today Living Group

We’re excited to announce the addition of Jeremy McFadden to our team as a Customer Service expert.

Jeremy’s been working with Today Living Group as our go-to handyman for years, but now he’s officially part of the full-time TLG team. He’ll be taking care of the maintenance and upkeep for our furnished  and unfurnished suites. If you’re an owner, tenant, guest or client, you’ve probably met Jeremy – he’s often the first on the scene for arrivals, departures, inspections or as part of our 24-hour emergency team.

WBE Canada: Today Living Group recertified for 2018!

Women's Business Enterprise Michelle White

We’re excited to announce that Today Living Group has confirmed their recertification by WBE Canada. (We’ve been certified since 2015.)

What is WBE Canada?

WBE (Women’s Business Enterprises) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting female entrepreneurs. It certifies businesses which are at least “51% owned, managed and controlled by women,” and connects them to opportunities. By partnering with governments, women’s business centers and other women-focused communities across Canada, WBE helps women to grow their enterprises and support other women in business.

WBE also provides training, coaching and mentoring programs that help women expand their capacity and capability to successfully bid on large projects and procurement opportunities.

And WBE also facilitates networking, both with procurement officers of leading corporations and with other WBE-certified organizations.

We also like the WBE certification because it means that we’re certified ‘supplier diverse’.  ‘Supplier diversity’ is a business program to promote the use of historically underutilized businesses – such as woman-owned, minority-owned and LGBT-owned – as suppliers.

What does it take to become WBE Certified?

The enterprise must:

  • Be owned (51% or more) by women
  • Be an established, for-profit business headquartered in Canada
  • Have a woman in the top position
  • Operate in any sector in the B2B marketplace
  • Be growth-oriented
  • Have the capacity to sell to large corporations and/or the ability to scale operations accordingly

Of course, not just any Canadian company with ‘a woman at the top’ can get WBE Certified. We had to pass the WBE site visit and their rigorous scrutiny of our operation (including financial and legal documentation). Our work with large corporations, our track record of growth, and our ability to partner with other WBE members was also important.

We’ve built some great relationships with other WBE members in the past few years – we look forward to continuing those relationships, and creating new ones, in the years to come!

Meet the newest member of the TLG team: Mary Casey

Mary Casey joins Today Living Group

We are very excited to announce that Mary Casey has joined Today Living Group as the Manager of New Business Development and Operations!

For almost 25 years, Mary has specialized in the management of unfurnished apartments and condominiums in the GTA, and is widely recognized as one of the leaders in the field.

Her proven experience steamlining the property management process, from attracting high-quality new tenants and adapting to new legislation, to ensuring that every suite under management is well-maintained and profitable, are just some of the reasons we’re so happy to have Mary join the team.

But her real genius is in her gift for building relationships:  She takes the time to get to know clients, tenants and other stakeholders in the property management process – and that makes all the difference.

We’re very pleased that Mary has decided to join the TLG family – and we think you will be, too!

It's the time of year to say 'Thank you'

Merry Christmas 2015 from TLG

From everyone here at Today Living Group, we’d just like to take this opportunity to thank all of our clients, guests, suite owners, suppliers and vendors for helping make 2015 one of our very best years ever.

This year, we celebrated our 10th anniversary, and we couldn’t have done it without you!

But of course it’s not enough just to say thank you – we think it’s also important to show our gratitude by helping others who may not have had the same kind of great year.  Here are some of the causes we supported this year – they’re all doing great things:

This year we became the accommodation sponsor for the Starlight Foundation. which helps children with serious illnesses and their families cope with the strain of long-term hospitalization and treatments. Starlight’s been around for almost 25 years, and some of the work they’ve done in heartbreaking situations is tremendous.  We’re looking forward to continuing our work with them in 2016.

Continuing our ongoing support for Sick Kids hospital, we attended the Hats off 2 Kidz fundraiser in September.  Hats off 2 Kidz is a great organization helping leukemia researchers pursue new lines of investigation, providing a molecular roadmap of leukemic cells and testing new therapies against cancer cell vulnerabilities in children with all forms of leukemia.

While we didn’t participate in an actual build again this year, we did donate to Habitat for Humanity, and hope to participate in another build in 2016 – it’s a great day for all kinds of reasons.

And of course we’ve continued our work with Courtney’s Quest, and we’re now planning for the next event coming up in April 2016. We’ve worked extensively with Courtney’s Quest for some time now and we encourage you to check them out.

Again, thank you for helping us make 2015 a great one. We hope you and the people you care most about have a wonderful holiday season!

Happy holidays from Today Living Group!

Today Living Group is now ASAP Accredited!

The ASAP Certified

We are very pleased to announce that Today Living Group has been fully accredited by ASAP (The Association of Serviced Apartment Providers) – one of only a handful of executive suites companies in Toronto and only 127 worldwide – to be given the accreditation.

The ASAP is a not-for-profit association, based in the UK, established to promote excellence in the provision of serviced apartments, executive suites and corporate housing.  To achieve ASAP accreditation means that we have met legal, health and safety practices – and compare favourably with other providers both in Canada and around the world.

Through our membership in CHPA (Corporate Housing Providers Association), the ASAP sent a representative from the UK to inspect TLG properties, to ensure we provide high-quality services to our clients. We were also required to provide them with examples of all our paperwork, including lease agreements, invoices, welcome letters, etc. – essentially they wanted to have the same experience as one of our ‘normal’ visitors might have.

Just some of the things they inspected:

  • Housekeeping services (especially quality and reliability)
  • Bed quality
  • Furnishings and interior design
  • Electronics (quality and functionality)
  • Check-in process
  • Building amenities
  • Website experience
  • Security

Accreditations from organizations such as the ASAP are important: We like to think that we are providing world-class, top-of-the-line service to all our clients, but it’s especially good to have that confirmed by an independent third party.
